For the second year running, we had the wonderful opportunity to be involved with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas Cookie Box Creations competition as mentors to a team of fifteen girls aged 10-13 years old. The goal of this program is to introduce these girls to STEM fields and work together on a design and build of a structure made of 1,000 cookie boxes. This year’s theme was “Explore the Outdoors!” Each team was given an activity to portray, and our assignment was fishing. In collaboration with the girls, we decided to personify a bear fishing for her food and include an underwater scene full of fish and other freshwater creatures. After months of meetings with the girls, we put it all together on our build day on March 13. Our structure is currently on display at the Galleria in Dallas and will be available to view until April 3.
