Emily’s passion for architecture started early, as she enjoyed drawing and creating as a child and eventually became enamored with home design computer programs. Emily grew up in Oklahoma, but ventured to the east coast after high school where she attended the University of Georgia, receiving a BFA in Interior Design. Emily went on to obtain a Master of Architecture with a concentration in Building Technologies from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her graduate thesis received several awards, including an opportunity to present at The Council on Tall Building’s and Urban Habitat’s 9th World Congress in Shanghai. Emily also studied abroad in Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
Before joining SHM, Emily spent almost half a decade living in New York City where she worked in the offices of highly acclaimed architecture and design firms. Emily has experience working in many avenues of the profession, including commercial, hospitality, and high-rise design to name a few, but she considers residential design her passion. Emily is a NCIDQ certified interior designer and is currently working towards becoming a licensed architect. Through her education and professional experience, Emily has developed a unique perspective and understanding of architecture and design, approaching projects from many different angles.
In her free time, Emily enjoys traveling, volunteering in the community, exploring all things Dallas – from restaurants to flea markets and everything in between, cheering on her favorite sports teams, and last, but certainly not least, spending time with her husband, daughter, and dog Lula Mae.
