In May 2022, Dan and his family moved from Denver, CO to Dallas and he joined SHM drawn by his goal to work in custom home design. He’s fueled by bold ideas realized by the best software and technology. And he has a passion for creating meaningful spaces with practical, creative solutions.
Dan grew up in Center City, Minnesota, about an hour north of the Twin Cities. He spent his summers enjoying backyard lake living while working on various lakeshore projects. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Design in 2011 and a Master’s in Architecture in 2012 from North Dakota State University in Fargo. His thesis focused on rediscovering a current design vernacular for a very specific region of the St. Croix river valley between MN & WI- a project influenced by those summers on the water celebrating the region’s natural and cultural beauty.
Dan began his professional career in Bismarck, ND, spending a year and half on civic projects including an event and trade show center and a mixed-use low-income housing and homeless shelter renovation. He then moved to Denver, CO, where he worked for over six years on transit maintenance facilities and large corporate campuses, including a major water operations complex redevelopment. This project involved nine buildings with LEED Platinum certification, and a “One Water” integrated approach with a wastewater recycling system, amongst other various unique innovations. Later, he spent a year in Golden, CO, focusing on school renovations and expansions, which sharpened his skills on projects of varying scales and complicated code analysis.
Outside work, Dan and his wife Ginny are raising 3 young boys. He loves taking on household projects, most recently building a custom chicken coop. He and his family enjoy playing games, gardening, hiking, and camping.
